Supreme Court closes inquiry into Tej Pratap Yadav’s role in Bihar journalist’s murder

The apex court closed inquiry into photographs showing him with the person accused of murdering Rajdeo Ranjan in Siwan.

Former Bihar Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav won legal reprieve on Thursday when the Supreme Court relied on a favourable CBI report and closed inquiry into photographs showing him with a person who is accused of murdering journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.
The apex court had in November last year directed the CBI to probe the photographs on the basis of a petition filed by Asha Ranjan, whose husband was murdered in Siwan district in Bihar.
Ms. Ranjan had accused Mr. Yadav of “harbouring and screening” the alleged killers of her husband.
The accused in question, Mohd. Kaif, was absconding in the Ranjan murder case when the photographs surfaced in the media. Mr. Kaif is alleged to be a sharpshooter for Siwan strongman and jailed RJD leader Mohd. Shahabuddin.
Mr. Yadav had said that he was attending a public function and a “man came up and gave me a bouquet of flowers”
Rajdeo Ranjan was murdered in Siwan in May 2016. Ms. Ranjan had sought direction for registration of FIR against Shahabuddin and Mr. Yadav for “conspiracy and harbouring and sheltering the proclaimed offenders” in the murder case.
