Total Solar Eclipse 2017

On August 21st a total solar eclipse will be visible across the US. Follow along with our news on this monumental event.

Fun fact!

Each solar eclipse, both total and annular eclipses, can be sorted into series of eclipses that share similar paths across the face of the Earth. These incredible coincidences in solar system mathematics, known as "Saros Series" are often very helpful in predicting future solar eclipses, more specifically their paths across the planet and the length of totality in certain regions along the path. For a visualisation of what I mean, this is a GIF animation of Saros Series 145, the series in which today's eclipse belongs.
